Here are some answers to frequently asked questions about the Fusion Play-Fi Server
Do I use the sources from my Play-Fi app on my mobile device?
No, you'll use the music sources that come with the server. These include streaming apps like Spotify, Pandora, TuneIn and others as well as our unique iTunes synchronization/backup service.
Do you support high res music files?
Yes! We support up to 24/192 files including formats like FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, Apple Lossless, etc...
Can I use the Play-Fi app on my phone or tablet to control the Play-Fi Server?
No, the Play-Fi server is a unique bridge to home automation systems. You'll use the mobile app available from the control manufacturer like Control4, Crestron, RTI, URC and others.
How many sources are in the Play-Fi Server?
The Play-Fi server has 3 discrete Play-Fi sources, meaning you can play three different sources at any one time. It also has 2 physical analog outputs and 1 digital toslink outlet that can be connected to a standard receiver or audio matrix switch. This gives a total of 6 totally discrete sources in one box!
Can I use the Play-Fi Server in a standard (non Play-Fi) installation?
Yes, you'd simply use the 3 physical outputs and use the standard Ovation driver for the home automation system your connecting to. Should you ever add Play-Fi speakers, you can simply start using the 3 Play-Fi outputs.
I've changed my Play-Fi speakers and now the volume is 0 and I can't hear any music?
The Play-Fi server utilizes a special virtual switch in our product that allows you to group different zones or send music to different speakers through a control system. To do this, we use something called 'Speaker Persistance', this remembers the MAC address of the individual Play-Fi amps and speakers. If you move them around, you'll need to refresh your Play-Fi Server in the Wizard to be able to set up the speakers in their new position.
